Summer on the Vineyard
As summer arrives, the lavender fields are buzzing with life and ready for harvest. Our early morning routine is to harvest the lavender before the bees wake. We distill the lavender and make bouquets daily. The air smells amazing. The lavender field south of the Huts has it’s own symphony. It is so relaxing to sit on the porch and watch the lavender sway and listen to the bees.
Most of the farm is starting to fruit and we are feverishly prepping for the onslaught of food from the kitchen garden. The olives are getting bigger and they are so beautiful with their silver green color blowing in the afternoon breezes.
We are frantically getting the vineyard ready for the coming harvest. This year our monsoon season started mid-June. We love the rains in the desert. So do the weeds and the native grasses. It always amazes me to see how lush the desert becomes with the rains. We are working on floor management and canopy training. Always watching the grapes for any changes. It is a busy time of year but the beauty of the vineyard is calming and inspiring. The nights are cool and, with the rains, the days are in the low 90’s.
We are overwhelmed with the beauty that surrounds us. Come for a visit. It is a great time of year to escape the heat of the city. Unwind and uncork. Visit the local tasting rooms, hike some amazing trails, star gaze. Pick up some wonderful lavender products. Every time you use them you can be reminded of the bounty of summer and an unforgettable experience.
Cheers from Rhumb Line Vineyard and Lavender Farm.
