Kitchen Garden
Rhumb Line Vineyard Garden
Here at RLV, we have a kitchen garden. The definition of a kitchen garden for those of you who might not know, is a combination of flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruit trees. It is actually just off the kitchen as well, which is very convenient. We gave it a geometrical design so that during the winter (brown months) we would still have something beautiful to walk around. In the center is a fountain which is very relaxing. (Unless you have to go to the bathroom.)
In the perimeter we have our annual plants, like, asparagus, artichokes, sage, rosemary, oregano, roses, hydrangeas, olives, and pomegranates.
In each quadrant we plant the crops we desire for the season. We have two summer seasons: early summer which is good for cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, onions, and lettuce, for example.
Then after the hot spell, in June and July, we usually have: tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, okra, peppers, peas, carrots, melons, etc. This of course, depends on our mood. We also have flowers for making tinctures and bouquets. For example, we have olive leaf and echinacea flower for tinctures and lavender, roses, and tulips for bouquets. We also have a beautiful arbor in our kitchen garden which is planted with table grapes. It provides a tranquil place to sit and enjoy the garden and the fountain. (Once again, only if you don’t have to go to the bathroom.) It is one of my favorite places on our property. I love our kitchen garden because I can relax and enjoy the beauty and the bounty. It nourishes both the body and the soul. I hope you have beautiful success with your kitchen garden!
