August
August signals the beginning of harvest. The mornings are brisk and one must take advantage of the temps and take in the views. As the day progresses it becomes very chaotic, as we get the vines ready for the bird netting. The birds will always let you know when the grapes are ripe. Sadly, if you don’t have the netting on in time you can lose your crop.
This year has brought a lot of rain. The monsoon started earlier than usual and the desert is fat and green. As I mow the beautiful grasses I often think how I need some sheep to help me out and create some more biodiversity. They are on the list, along with some honey bees.
The garden is beautiful and full of produce. We use as much as we can at Olive’s. We also bring produce, eggs and lavender bouquets to our Farm Shoppe for our community to share.
Cheers from Willcox,
Michelle
